from NY

3rd-9th May 2011, I stayed at New York. I had group exhibition in Chelsea.

3rd May tuesday

I arrived JFK airport at around the noon. I barely took subway, and then arrived at April's house. It was near the chinatown. She is nery nice, and I really appriciate her kindness. I will stay at there for three days. I had a strongly jet lug, so so sleepy. I went to bed, sleep for a while.

4th May wednesday

Rainy and cold weather.

I went to Agallery which we have goup exhibition at. It was in Chelsea but not the center of there. Although today is the firrst day of our exhibition, they didn't finish to hang on our works. So I have to help them a bit.

It was really cold outside. I walk around Chelsea district to see some exhibitions. But my unbrella was broken by strong wind. Ah.. I have thought almost exhibition was contemporary, but I could see many traditional paintings or photograghies. It was unexpected.

I came back to April's house, then her pertner, April and I have a dinner with spaghetti and red wine. We talked about Japan a lot. That's was fun.

5th May Thursday

Before opening party, I met old friend who lives in NY. She is also artist, we were in the same college's class mate. She and her pertner and I went to Soho or Chelsea to visiut some good galleries. We could see Water de Maria's exhibition who was well known as comtenporary artist.

At the opening party, I met some new friends, or friend's friends. It was exciting for me. I talked a lot with them and new visiters who were interested in my works.

This gallery is usually rental gallery. This is my first step in NY. I think it is really small one, but I want to spread it more little by little. Anyway I made some new friends. That is most fantastic experience for me, every time I think so.

April and I visited galleries near her house. I was surprised there were a lot of galleries near here. Here is not Chelsea, Soho or Ginza. But We could find easily many kinds of galleries everywhere while walking around.

Such a nice day today. Sunshine , blue sky, many visitors walking around. Acoording to April, this area was really dengerous district about 10 or 20 years ago. But getting to be changed, new buildings were built or renewal.

Actually she is also printkmaking artist. She makes wood cut prints in water based. She learned that in Awaji-workshop about 15 years ago. She sometimes have work shop about that in US. She is only American artist who can teach about wood cut printing in water based. She will come to Japan for attending "KYOTO MOKUHANGA KAIGI" next jury. And she will have a gorup exhibition with Kurosaki and Noda at there. We talked a lot about it.

I visited Chelsea again. A lot of visitors were walking aroud this area. It was 3rd time coming for me. Today finally I could come in some very famous gallery, Gagosian gallery and Mary Boone gallery. Last 2 times I came here, but I couldn't come in. They were closed because of changing exhibition or something.

My friend F-san said that Gagosian gallery was most expensive gallery in all over the world. Left photo is exihibition. I sometimes saw same work at the other galleries. It's like a museum.

And then I went to PS-1 gallery. It is a famous non profit big gallery which have almost young artist's comtemporary art. I found a really funny work. 2 days ago, also saw strange work in New Museum. Yeah, I sometimes found funny and strange element in a few comtemporary works. It is interesting for me. But almost other comtemporary works were not understand for me.

I went to Beacon town which my friend F-san lives. It took for about an hour by train to there from Manhattan. There is a famous museum at there called Dia Beacon. It was big contemporary art museum. It has Richard Serra's huge objects. They were such a fantastic works. But my most favorite works were Michael Heizer's ones. They were just huge 4 holes and rock. Anyway every works were huge. Most small works were On Kawara's ones.

F-san kindly invited me to her house. Her partner and her friend also joined at there. We had a home party, a lot of talk, drink, had fun. F-san were making big work now in her nice studio. I like her works , and I envied her studio's large equipment.

I went to Brooklyn bridge to see beautiful night view. I ate pizza, drink a beer, then enough that.

I have to leave tomorrow.
